HILLWORKS is thrilled to receive four design awards from Alabama ASLA this year. Porch House received an Honor Award in Residential Design, Waverly Woodland Garden received a Merit Award in Residential Design, Breaker Breaker received a Merit Award in Design, and the 1st Avenue Public Way received a Merit Award in Design.

We're excited to announce that Maggie Brand is baaaaack! After joining us last summer as an intern, Maggie headed over to the Republic of Georgia as a Fulbright Researcher where she did some amazing grassroots landscape restoration work with Napirze. We're delighted to have her back in the studio!

We're excited to share that HILLWORKS has been selected as one of the participants of the Northwest Arkansas Design Excellence Program!
Established in 2015, the Northwest Arkansas Design Excellence Program promotes the highest level of design in the development of future public buildings and spaces in Benton and Washington counties. The selection of its design professionals, projects and program success is guided by four key principles: commitment to strengthening public life, elevating standards of sustainability and resilience, celebrating local cultures and places and building regional capacity.

We're thrilled to share the news that the Children's Garden received final approval from Auburn University's Board of Trustees! We hope this garden will be filled with curiosity and wonder, and will set the tone for the rest of the Transformation Garden.

Auburn University's Board of Trustees has given it's final approval of the Gulf Coast Engineering Research Station in Orange Beach, AL! This facility will provide direct access to the Gulf of Mexico, where researchers will focus on challenges related to infrastructure resiliency and environmental protection, restoration, sustainability and conservation.

FIELDWORK UPDATE: David took a site visit to Montague Park in Chattanooga, Tennessee to observe the series of test trenches, which allow the design team to evaluate where the waste layers of the historic landfill begin. We are looking forward to working through the adjustments with the team led by Reed Hilderbrand.

FIELDWORK UPDATE: Back in the basins at Auburn’s Advanced Structural Engineering Laboratory this morning after a few rainy days and loving the wet winter tones. We recently received a seed grant to more carefully observe how the basins perform and how the plant communities continue to evolve. More to come soon!

FIELDWORK UPDATE: Allow us to introduce you to PLOT 6! That’s right, we’ve added another plot to the Alabama Meadows research within Auburn’s Mary Olive Thomas Demonstration Forest. We’re not introducing a new mix of seeds into this plot, but watching how annual fire impacts the existing assemblage. Fingers crossed for some good dormant season burns in the next few weeks.
